Ingredients

  • Catfish fillets → 4
  • Buttermilk → 1 cup
  • Cornmeal → 1 cup
  • All-purpose flour → 1/2 cup
  • Salt → 1 tsp
  • Black pepper → 1 tsp
  • Paprika → 1 tsp
  • Garlic powder → 1/2 tsp
  • Onion powder → 1/2 tsp
  • Vegetable oil (for frying) → as needed
  • Lemon wedges → as needed

Southern Fried Catfish: Instructions

  1. Wash the catfish fillets with water and dry them with a towel and marinate in buttermilk at least 20-30 minutes.
  2. Combinations Cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder should be combined in a bowl.
  3. Take the fish out of the buttermilk, allowing the large part of it to drip, then dredge the pieces in the seasoned cornmeal mixture.
  4. Heat a deep pan of vegetable oil to approximately 175degC (350deg F).
  5. Cook the batches of catfish 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crisp.
  6. Take off and put on paper towels to wipe off excess oil.
  7. Garnish with lemon slices in order to have a fresh and tangy touch.
