2 pounds lean ground beef

2 cups of grated cheddar cheese (approximately 8 ounces), and more to serve, should you wish.

1 can (10.5-ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup.

120 grams of dry onion soup mix.
Slow Cooker Amish Cheddar Beef: Directions

Lightly spray the inside of a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray so that it is easy to clean.

Put the uncooked ground beef in the bottom of the slow cooker, and break it up a little with your hands or a spoon so that it is in big pieces.

Evenly sprinkle the cut cheddar cheese on the uncooked ground beef.

Grind the shredded cheddar cheese into the uncooked ground beef in the slow cooker until it is fairly evenly spread through the meat. And it will be somewhat untidy and fat–just what you desire.

Pour over the cheesy ground beef mixture the sprinkled onion soup mix.

Pour the condensed mushroom cream of mushroom soup over the top. Do not add water, you want it thick so that it will stick to the beef as it cooks.

Use a large spoon or spatula to press the onion mix with the soup in the pan until all is combined loosely with the cheesy beef mixture. It does not have to be well blended, and it will blend by itself during the cooking process.

Cover the slow cooker with the cover and either cook on low between 5-6 hours or cook on high between 2.5-3 hours until the beef is cooked through and extremely tender. After approximately 30 minutes, stir the mixture, which will only be half cooked, to break up any large clumps of beef that may be in it.

After the beef is all cooked, mix thoroughly to mix the cheesy sauce and beef into a homogenous mix. Add flavor and season to taste (onion soup mix is salty, but you may not need to add more).

Switch the slow cooker to WARM and allow the mix to rest between 10-15 minutes to thin after which it is to be served. Top hot on a bed of mashed potatoes, noodles, rice, or on top of a bunch of buns, and add some additional shredded cheddar, should you wish.
