  • 1 huge yellow onion, sliced fine

  • 1 large lemon, sliced fine

  • 1 can (10.5-ounce) condensed beef broth or beef gravy-type soup.

Sausage and Beans: Directions

  1. Cut the smoked sausage into onion thinly sliced half-inch thick rounds.

  2. Conditional, but advisable: In a large skillet on medium-high heat, dry-roast the sausage pieces (sliced) 3 to 4 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are lightly browned on both sides. This step is optional and provides an extra flavor plus color but can be omitted in the event you are in a hurry.

  9. Stir everything well, taste, and add salt and black pepper to season (you typically do not need a lot of seasoning, the sausage and broth are usually salty).
