Meatball Penne in the Slow Cooker 3-Ingredient

Meatball Penne in the Slow Cooker 3-Ingredient. My colleague lives by this time to nutrient of adding 3 ingredients into the crock to allow the magic to take place as you work. The savoury juices sink through.

Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 (24-26 ounce) jar marinara/ tomato pasta sauce.

  • 1 (24 ounce) package frozen fully cooked Italian-style meatballs.

  • 12 ounces uncooked penne pasta

Meatball Penne: Directions

  1. Lightly spray the inside of a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray so that it is easy to clean (not very necessary but helps).

  2. The whole jar of marinara or tomato pasta sauce is then poured into the base of the slow cooker and evenly blended.

  3. Place the frozen Italian-style meatballs on top of the sauce, and spread them into a solid layer making them being mostly embedded in the sauce.

  4. Bake on HIGH or LOW, 2- 2 1/2 hours or 4 hours respectively, until meatballs are hot in the middle and the sauce is boiling at the edges.

  5. Combine meatballs and sauce mixture. Then, add the uncooked penne pasta and press it down using a spoon in order to cover as much of the pasta as possible with the hot sauce and meatball juices. In case your sauce is too thick and does not entirely cover the pasta, add 1/2 to 3/4 cup hot water just enough to cook the noodles.

  6. Bake and stir at HIGH 25 to 40 minutes, stirring once halfway, until the penne becomes tender without being mushy. Slow cookers are different and then begin to check after 20-25 minutes the sauce should be boiling and the pasta must begin thickening the sauce as it cooks.

  7. After the penne has cooked to your preference do a final light stir so that the meatball juices and savory tomato sauce cover all of the noodles. Switch the slow cooker to WARM and allow it to rest 5 to 10 minutes to become a little bit thick and then serve.

  8. Add and add flavor with pinch of salt, black pepper or a sprinkle of dried Italian herbs (they are optional ingredients unnecessary). Spoon directly out of the slow cooker.
