French Onion Burger Steaks Slow Cooker. The slow cooker 6-ingredient recipe of French onion burger steak is my type of a weeknight win, warm, savory, effortless, packed with onion flavor, and perfect comfort food.
The slow cooker 6-ingredient recipe of French onion burger steak is my type of a weeknight win: it is not only warm and home-cooked but requires no more than 10 minutes of actual work. You literally put sliced onions directly over raw beef patties in the slow cooker, add only four other easily available pantry ingredients and leave it simmering away to soft, savoury burger steaks in a hearty French onion-style gravy. It brings me a memory of a diner-style Salisbury steak that my Midwestern grandmother used to prepare, except there is the added convenience of a set-it-and-forget slow cooker, and an addition of more onion flavor that feels like you put much more work into it than you actually did.
Servings: 4
Ingredients
-
1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80-90% lean)
-
1 teaspoon kosher salt
-
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
-
2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced.
-
10.5-ounce can French onion soup, condensed.
-
1 (1-ounce) dry onion soup mix.
French Onion Burger Steaks: Directions
-
Spray the inside of your slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray so that it is easy to clean, place it on a level surface, such as a white tile countertop.
-
In a medium bowl, the kosher salt and black pepper are to be mixed with the ground beef gently. Do not overmix and the patties may become thick.
-
Break the experienced beef into 4 equal portions and form each piece to one flat, wide patty of about 3/4 inch thickness. As a single snug layer in the bottom of the slow cooker, place the raw beef patties. It is all right that the edges meet, but leave them not overlapping.
-
You can layer the onions over the raw beef patties, which are then cut into thin slices which are then spread evenly all over the patties. The magic will occur here, the onions will gradually cook down and add flavor to the meat and juices.
-
Whisk the condensed French onion soup and the dry onion soup mix together in a small bowl or measuring cup until the mixture is smooth, mostly. There is no need of adding water, the patties and onions will give out juices when cooked.
-
Add the onion soup mixture, evenly spread without spillage on the patties and onions of the slow cooker and ensure that all the ingredients receive some of that concentrated taste.
-
Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW between 5 and 7 hours or HIGH between 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 hours or until the burger steaks are cooked through (no pink in the middle) and very tender. The onions are to be tender and the sauce will have melted into a luscious savory gravy.
-
After the burger steaks are cooked, lift them carefully out using a wide spatula and leave as many onions on them as possible and put on plates or on a serving platter. Add the rest of the onions and gravy in the slow cooker and then use a raw material and generously pour the preparation on the top of the burger steaks.
-
Taste the gravy and sprinkle with a pinch of extra salt or pepper if necessary then serve the French onion burger steaks hot over either mashed potatoes, noodles or rice and be sure to use all the remaining of those slow-cooked onions.
