Apple Cider Chicken in Slow Cooker. Orchard Dinner: only 4 ingredients. Twenties of this sweet and savory meal were sought by my father-in-law. This apple cider chicken is sweet, tasty, and easy to make. You cook it in a slow cooker with apples and a yummy glaze. It is soft, juicy, and perfect for dinner.
Servings: 4
Ingredients
-
2 pounds bone-in and skin-on chicken thighs (approximately 6 pieces)
-
1 1/2 cups apple cider (not vinegar)
-
1 cup barbecue sauce, apple cider
-
2 medium firm apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), cored, and cut into wedges
Apple Cider Chicken Cooker: Directions
-
Wipe the chicken thighs with dry paper towels and remove extra skin or big pockets of fat.
-
Combine the apple cider and apple cider barbecue sauce in a bowl and whisk until smooth.
-
Place the apple wedges evenly on the bottom of a 4-to-6-quart slow cooker.
-
Lay the chicken thighs on top of the apples, skin side up.
-
Pour the cider and barbecue mixture over the chicken, leaving some skin above the liquid.
-
Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW 6-7 hours or HIGH 3-4 hours until chicken is very tender and apples are soft.
-
Remove extra fat from the sauce. Optionally, reduce some liquid in a saucepan for a thicker glaze and pour it back.
-
Taste the sauce and adjust with cider or barbecue sauce if needed. Stir the apples gently to coat them in glaze.
-
Keep the chicken warm in the slow cooker and serve the apples and amber glaze generously over each piece.
