Apple Cider Chicken in Slow Cooker

Apple Cider Chicken in Slow Cooker. Orchard Dinner: only 4 ingredients. Twenties of this sweet and savory meal were sought by my father-in-law. This apple cider chicken is sweet, tasty, and easy to make. You cook it in a slow cooker with apples and a yummy glaze. It is soft, juicy, and perfect for dinner.

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds bone-in and skin-on chicken thighs (approximately 6 pieces)

  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider (not vinegar)

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce, apple cider

  • 2 medium firm apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), cored, and cut into wedges

Apple Cider Chicken Cooker: Directions

  1. Wipe the chicken thighs with dry paper towels and remove extra skin or big pockets of fat.

  2. Combine the apple cider and apple cider barbecue sauce in a bowl and whisk until smooth.

  3. Place the apple wedges evenly on the bottom of a 4-to-6-quart slow cooker.

  4. Lay the chicken thighs on top of the apples, skin side up.

  5. Pour the cider and barbecue mixture over the chicken, leaving some skin above the liquid.

  6. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW 6-7 hours or HIGH 3-4 hours until chicken is very tender and apples are soft.

  7. Remove extra fat from the sauce. Optionally, reduce some liquid in a saucepan for a thicker glaze and pour it back.

  8. Taste the sauce and adjust with cider or barbecue sauce if needed. Stir the apples gently to coat them in glaze.

  9. Keep the chicken warm in the slow cooker and serve the apples and amber glaze generously over each piece.
