Servings: 6
Ingredients
-
12 oz dry wide egg noodles
-
4 cups low fat chicken broth
-
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, in pieces
-
1 1/2 tsp seasoned salt (or to taste)

Amish Buttered Noodles: Directions
-
To prevent sticking, a bit of butter or nonstick spray on the inside of your slow cooker is sprayed lightly.
-
Evenly pour the dry egg noodles onto the bottom of the slow cooker in a fairly even layer.
-
Butter pieces should be scattered on the top of the dry noodles but some should be pushed down the noodles to melt evenly.
-
Spray the experienced salt to the noodles and butter.
-
The chicken broth is then poured gradually over the dry egg noodles in the slow cooker ensuring that the entire noodles are moistened. Gently stir using a spoon in case required to ensure majority of the noodles are immersed in the broth.
-
Cover and bake on LOW between 2 and 3 hours or until the noodles become tender but not mushy. At about 1 1/2-2 hour mark, stir at the bottom to ensure that the noodles cook well in order to absorb the buttery broth.
-
When the noodles are tender and a lot of the liquid is absorbed into a light buttery sauce, then taste and add a little more seasoned salt to it as necessary.
-
Warm the slow cooker and have the noodles right out of the crock. Stir them gently before serving to shake the butter and seasoning.
Variations & Tips
-
In case of picky eaters, you can reduce the seasoned salt by a bit at the beginning and allow everybody to add a pinch to it at the table.
-
To add more creamy flavor to your family noodle, add 1/4-1/2 cup of sour cream or splash of heavy cream at the end of cooking.
-
For additional nutrition, add a cup of frozen peas or mixed vegetables in the last 20-30 minutes of cooking.
-
Want a little more flavor? Add 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder or onion powder along with the seasoned salt, or sprinkle with black pepper.
-
To make it more substantial, add shredded rotisserie chicken, old roast beef, or diced ham at the end and allow it to warm on LOW approximately 10 minutes.
-
If the noodles appear a little dry, add an additional 1/4 to 1/2 cup of warm chicken broth and stir gently until they attain your desired consistency.
