Amish Buttered Cabbage In Slow Cooker is a simple, rustic dish where chopped green cabbage is cooked slowly with butter and basic seasonings. The slow cooking brings out a deep, buttery flavor, making it tender and perfect as a comforting side dish.
Ingredients
-
1 medium head green cabbage (approximately 2 to 2½ pounds), cored and cut roughly
-
6 unsalted butter tablespoons, sliced
-
1 teaspoon (or to taste) kosher salt
-
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Amish Buttered Cabbage: Instructions
-
Wash the cabbage and remove any hard or spoiled outer leaves. Cut cabbage into quarters, remove the core, and chop roughly into bite-sized pieces.
-
Put the chopped cabbage into the slow cooker and arrange evenly without over-packing.
-
Sprinkle salt and pepper all over the cabbage. No need to stir; seasonings will distribute as it cooks.
-
Slice the butter and place evenly on top of the seasoned cabbage to create buttery pockets.
-
Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours until cabbage is tender and releases some juices.
-
Carefully mix the cooked cabbage to combine melted butter and seasonings. Adjust salt and pepper if needed.
-
Serve hot, spooning some of the buttery cooking liquid over each portion.
