Amish Apple Beef Roast Slow Cooker

Amish Apple Beef Roast Slow Cooker. This easy dish is my go-to meal when I have no dinner idea and peek in the fridge. Like the name says, you put a raw beef roast in the cooker, add applesauce on top, plus just three more easy items from your kitchen. It tastes like old Amish food, using basic stuff—beef, apples, onion, and simple spices—that turn yummy and soft with slow cooking. The applesauce melts down, makes the meat tender, and forms a sweet, tasty gravy without any hard work.

Make a cozy family dinner with this simple slow cooker apple beef roast! Tender beef cooks low and slow in sweet applesauce, onions, and savory seasoning for a gravy that’s pure comfort. Inspired by Amish ways, it’s set-it-forget-it magic—perfect over mashed potatoes. Just 5 ingredients, serves 6, ready in hours!

Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 3 to 3½ pounds beef chuck roast

  • 1½ cups plain applesauce (no sugar added)

  • 1 big yellow onion, cut into slices

  • 1 packet (1 ounce) dry onion soup mix

  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt, or more to taste

Amish Apple Beef Roast: Directions

  1. Set the slow cooker on a flat spot, like a kitchen counter. Put the raw beef roast right in the middle. Trim extra fat if you want, but keep some for good taste.

  2. Spread the onion slices all around and on top of the meat. They’ll soften into the gravy.

  3. Shake the dry onion soup mix evenly over the meat and onions. It adds lots of yummy flavor.

  4. Sprinkle a little kosher salt on top of the roast. The mix has salt already, so go light—you can fix it later.

  5. Pour the applesauce over the raw roast. Let it cover the top and run down the sides to coat the meat and reach the onions. This makes the sweet juice that softens everything.

  6. Put the lid on tight. Cook on LOW for 8-9 hours, or HIGH for 4-5 hours, until the meat is super soft and falls apart with a fork.

  7. Taste the juice and add more salt if needed. Move the roast to a board, slice or pull it apart, then put it back in the cooker to soak up sauce, or serve with juice on top.

  8. Dish it up hot with sides like mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice to grab the gravy. Add green veggies like beans or salad to make it balanced. Leftovers are great on toast with gravy!
