Easy Buttered Sweet Peas… Every holiday, my grandma would make a big pot of these sweet peas on the stove. The whole kitchen smelled so good! The kids would run in and ask for more before they even sat down. That’s how yummy they were.
This 3-ingredient buttered sweet peas recipe is so easy, anyone can make it. You only need three things — and the result is amazing. The peas get soft and sweet, and the butter turns into a smooth, shiny sauce that wraps around every single pea. Kids love it, grown-ups love it, and best of all, it doesn’t take long at all!
Servings: 4

Ingredients
- 3 cups frozen sweet peas
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 0.5 cup low-sodium chicken broth (or water)

Easy Buttered Sweet Peas: Steps
- Add peas and broth to pan: Put 3 cups frozen sweet peas and 0.5 cups low-sodium chicken broth (or water) into a medium pot. The liquid should just sit around the peas — it’s okay if some peas stick out of the top a little bit.
- Heat it up: Turn the stove to medium heat. Wait for the liquid to start making small bubbles. Stir it a few times and break up any frozen clumps of peas as they warm up.
- Cook the peas low and slow: Turn the heat down to low. Put a lid on the pot and let the peas cook for 10 to 12 minutes. Stir once or twice. The peas should look bright green and feel soft when they’re ready.
- Cook off most of the liquid: Take the lid off. Keep cooking on low for 3 to 5 more minutes, stirring here and there. Most of the liquid should cook away, but the peas should still look a little wet.
- Stir in the butter: Add 4 tablespoons unsalted butter to the pot. Keep stirring on low heat until all the butter melts and makes a smooth, shiny sauce that covers all the peas. Take a little taste — if you want, add just a tiny bit of salt to make them even sweeter.
- Let them rest and serve: Turn off the stove. Let the peas sit on the warm burner for 2 to 3 minutes so all the yummy flavors mix together. Give them one last gentle stir, then scoop them into a bowl and serve while they’re still warm!
Notes
You can use plain water instead of chicken broth and it still tastes great. Want to make it extra special? Add a small pinch of sugar with the butter — it makes the peas even sweeter! These go great with almost any holiday meal.
