American Chop Suey In Slow Cooker. One Pot Wonder: Only 5 Ingredients. A simple and hearty winter dish, this Recipe combines beef, macaroni, and tomato sauce in one pot. Great for a warm family meal that’s easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef, browned and emptied

  • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara or pasta sauce

  • 3 cups beef broth (or water)

  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni (approximately 8 ounces)

  • 1 medium onion, cut in bits (or 1 cup of frozen cut onions)

American Chop Suey: Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat and divide into pieces using a spoon. Drain excess fat.

  2. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook 3–4 minutes until tender (skip this step if using frozen onions).

  3. Lightly spray a slow cooker with cooking spray. Put the onions and browned beef into the slow cooker.

  4. Pour in the beef broth and the marinara or pasta sauce.

  5. Cover and cook on LOW 4–5 hours or HIGH 2–3 hours until flavors blend.

  6. About 30–40 minutes before serving, stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni, ensuring it is mostly submerged. Add ½ cup water or broth if needed.

  7. Cook on high flame 25 to 35 minutes, stirring halfway, until macaroni is tender but not mushy.

  8. Stir everything again, add some salt and pepper, and serve it hot right from the slow cooker.
